Cycling

Whether you're seeking ‘off-roading’, a gentle ride on some green routes or a chance to try what the professionals do, North Yorkshire offers you that experience.

In 2014 the ‘Tour de France’ visited Yorkshire with the "Grand Départ", which was a huge success and highlighted just some of the magnificent scenery that Yorkshire has to offer. If you need a reminder of that time. click here. Progressing from that event which was a resounding success (arguably the most successful First Stage of the event) Yorkshire held its inaugural "Tour de Yorkshire" in May 2015. For further information of the route please click here.

The event attracted visitors from all over Europe and further afield, proving itself to be a great draw for riders. The race is expected to become the leading cycling event in the UK moving forward, and the route for the 3rd stage of the 2016 Tour passes right by Craven Garth.

As well as following existing "official" routes, you can also create one of your own. One of the best routes in Yorkshire is undoubtedly the Moors to Sea Cycle Route. Now a firm favourite with many enthusiasts this route take you from the top of the world on the Moors down to see level at Scarborough, or vice versa! You can buy a copy of the route and guide here. Cycling in forests, along gravelled roads, quiet country lanes, moors and hills on waymarked bridle paths; whichever you choose you will have a memorable experience.

Bring your own bike or you can hire one whilst you are here, it’s a great ‘family’ pastime and healthy as well!
